Time: Wednesday, May 1, 7:45p Place: Mandarin Gourmet 420 Ramona Palo Alto, CA 650-328-8898 Description: Mandarin Gourmet is a reasonably nice Mandarin restaurant. They have a plethora of prawn dishes, and somewhat meager vegetarian fare. Their prices are median for Palo Alto, which makes them a bit upscale when compared to a comparable restaurant in Berkeley. I'd place them about a star above Taiwan (no grease, slightly more interesting menu), but they are also more expensive than Taiwan. [Review by RichardT] [Additions by Bill Stewart] The crunchy fried eggplant is especially good. Kabuki was probably last at Mandarin Gourmet in April 2001 Directions: Mandarin Gourmet is one half block north of University Avenue in Palo Alto on Ramona. From Berkeley/Oakland: Take 880 South to the Dumbarton Bridge. Take the Dumbarton to 101 Southbound. The next exit is University Ave, which you take west into Downtown Palo Alto. Turn right at Ramona, the restaurant is on the left hand side about halfway down the block. From the South Bay: Take 101 North to University Ave; Take University Ave west to Ramona; Turn right and park, the restaurant is on your left. Caltrain: Take the train to Palo Alto. Take the Secret Passage to cross under the tracks and emerge on the other side. Turn right and walk to University Ave, Left 3-4 blocks to Ramona, and Left a block on Ramona.
