Time: 7:45pm Place: Cafe Silan 867 Santa Cruz Ave. (at Evelyn) Menlo Park 1-650-326-5404 Description: Kurdistan overlaps the corner between Turkey, Iraq, Iran, and Armenia, and the food draws from all of its neighbors. Vegetarians can find hummus and eggplants and bulgar wheat, carnivores can find grilled meats. They also make interesting pizza variants in a wood-fired oven (the owner also has a couple of Italian restaurants, but this is a different style pizza). Ava rezi is a drink made from dried fruits. It's not very big - seats 16-20 inside, plus sidewalk in summer, so RSVPs would be nice. Kabuki ate there in April 2002. The coffee place next to Kepler's Books is the obvious dessert-venue target. Directions: Santa Cruz Ave is the main drag in Menlo Park, ending on El Camino roughly at the Kepler's complex. Take El Camino north from Palo Alto and turn left on Santa Cruz, and it's a few blocks on your left. Parking lots are on the block behind the restaurant. From 101, take the Willow Road exit, Right on Middlefield, Left on Ravenswood, Right on El Camino or Merrill, Left on Santa Cruz.
