Review and Directions
Taiwan
in Berkeley
Place
Taiwan
2071 University Ave.
Berkeley
Description
Taiwan is good Szechuan and Mandarin food, in a fairly nouveau
(modern) Chinese setting. Rob thinks the duck is especially good.
The restaurant does a very good job of holding us on two large
tables in the center. The tables are round, with big (but never
quite big enough) lazy-susans in the center. The dinners are, as
you might expect, served family-style.
The service is pretty fast and efficient, although I've rarely
seen the help smile. To go along with that the walls are white
and spare. This is no mirror-heaven Chinese restaurant.
Dinner should be about twelve dollars, not including drinks.
We have not been to Taiwan in quite a long time. Close air support
will be provided by Star Fleet.

Directions
Short
Taiwan is just west of the corner of Shattuck Ave. and
University Ave., on the north side of University Ave. It has
a white sign with gold lettering.
BART
Get off at the Berkeley station. Walk north on Shattuck Ave.
to University Ave. Cross University Ave. Take a left
(downhill) on University. Taiwan will be on your right less
than halfway down the block.
Parking Note
If you are coming by car, be aware that parking is difficult
to find! This IS central Berkeley, after all! If you are
having trouble, remember that there is a meter-full lot just
behind Taiwan which is patrolled (ugh!) 24 hours a day.
