: I want to do more with my yard. I wandered into edible landscaping and chickens on my own. Then I found out about permaculture after the fact. So I didnt have anyone to talk to and got some things wrong. : Heres some summary info. : Last summer I planted: : front yard: : evergreen blueberries (neat) , evergreen huckleberries, : mint, chocolate mint, rosemary, thyme, lavendar, irish moss, bay, cherry tree, several types of strawberry : back yard: (ripped out about 20 feet of drive way) : 2 more cherry trees, several types of raspberries, black grape, white grape (was there already) several goose berries, several currants, several blueberries, black bamboo (runner) and a clumper whose name I forget. : We also got 3 hens and I built a henhouse. : I have several projects I want to do in Jan/Feb/March: : 1. I salvaged a brick chimney and want to use them to build raised fractal beds and a spiral bed (like the one on this site, who did that?) I need to know how to get some soil for them quick. : 2. I need to build a chicken run cause they pretty much ruined the veggie garden last year. 3. Need to add a droppings board beneath the roost so I can focus the manure better (and not track it in my house so much ;-). : 4. My compost pile is WEAK and I am interested in some red worms too (help?) And what about banana skins? FYI, the compost pile will be inthe chicken run so next year should be much better. : 5. I need help coming up with the garden contents and cherry tree guilds. I also want some pointers on region appropriate potatoes and carrots. : 6. I cant make up my mind about an old maple. I want to replace it with an apple guild but I dont know. I'm thinking of thinning it at least. : 7. I want to redirect one of my downspots into the gravel paths that will be between the raised beds. : 8. I want to "glean" some salmon berry plants and any other native plants in an ethical manner. I need ideas on species, location and moral hazards. : 9. I want to put rain barrels on 2 other downspouts and focus the overflow into a hidden swale (that i dont have or know how to make for sure).
